Family cancels burial plans For gospel singer Omije Ojumi

The family of late Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinnaanu, popularly known as Omije Ojumi, has cancelled earlier announced burial arrangements for the singer.

The decision was made public on Saturday in a statement shared on social media by Lanre Alewilese, a close associate of the late singer and a member of the burial planning committee.

In the statement, Alewilese said, “To whom it may concern: This is to inform you that all plans and arrangements for the burial of our late sister and colleague, Lady Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu a.k.a. Omije Ojumi, by the Burial Planning Committee has been totally cancelled. This decision became necessary due to some issues arising from and within her family. We deeply regret the inconvenience.”

Omije Ojumi died on January 12, at a hospital in Lagos after battling a prolonged leg ailment. Her condition had earlier attracted attention within the gospel music community, with colleagues and fans offering prayers and support.

Before the cancellation notice, burial details had been circulated online, including a service of songs, candlelight procession, artistes’ night and interment scheduled for January 20 and 21, 2026. The arrangements were shared by gospel singer Alayo Melody on behalf of the family.

The family is yet to announce new burial arrangements.
