Actress Evan Okoro has posted her HIV test result online as part of her response to a circulating rumour that she is living with HIV.
Evan took to social media after her name reportedly appeared on a list shared online linking some actors to health issues. The actress said she saw a video suggesting that her colleague Ekene Umenwa mentioned her as someone living with the virus.
In a video shared on Instagram, she expressed shock over the claim and spoke partly in pidgin English while addressing the rumour.
“E get something wey I see for social media right now. My name dey for one list; dem talk say Evan Okoro carry one thing for body wey dey heavy people for mouth to talk,” she said.
She also addressed Ekene directly, questioning whether the statement attributed to her was accurate.
“Ekene Umenwa, you add me for your list? Is that what you said, or the devil just wants to use una bring me down? I defended you ooo. I said let’s hear the Ekene side of the story, but seeing my name there as somebody wey dem talk say she carries HIV sickness for body.”
Evan said the allegation left her distressed and unable to sleep. She subsequently went to a medical facility in Asaba, Delta State, where she carried out an HIV test and recorded the process.
“I am here to run HIV test. I want you guys to see every of the process. I can’t sleep ooo, they said I carried HIV,” she said.
She later showed the result of the laboratory test, which indicated she was negative for HIV.
The actress also stated that the rumour had affected her family, noting that her mother was hurt by the claim. As of the time of this report, Ekene Umenwa has not publicly responded to the allegation.
