BRB Capital CEO Etimbuk Bassey

Etimbuk Bassey has been appointed chief executive officer of BRB Capital Group, with the appointment announced on Wednesday and effective February 16.

The appointment is part of the company’s strategy to build an Africa-originated investment institution focused on cross-border origination, capital access and institutional partnerships.

Group Managing Director Ebele Onyeabo said Mr. Bassey assumes leadership at a time of strong momentum for the firm, including continued institutional strengthening and progress toward the Securities and Exchange Commission’s recapitalisation requirement.

He said the appointment positions the company to scale operations, deepen market capabilities and expand its international footprint.

“Mr Etimbuk Bassey assumes leadership at a time of strong momentum for the Group, including continued institutional strengthening and progress aligned with the SEC’s recapitalisation requirement, positioning BRB Capital to scale responsibly, deepen market capabilities and expand its international footprint,” Mr. Onyeabo said.

Bassey has more than two decades of experience across fintech, venture capital and corporate finance.

His work spans deal origination and execution, enterprise sales, capital raising, transaction structuring and advisory services for small and medium enterprises, high-growth companies and institutional partners.

He previously served as Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Seedstars.

At Flutterwave, he was Vertical Head, handling strategy and partnerships with global remittance firms. He later joined Budpay as chief operating officer and subsequently became country director for Budpay UK, overseeing operations across Africa and the United Kingdom.

Over the course of his career, he has overseen transactions valued at more than $5 billion and led high-performance teams across multiple markets.

In his first remarks following the announcement, Bassey said the company would focus on scaling with discipline, strengthening governance and delivering outcomes for clients and partners.

“BRB Capital has built a strong foundation, and the opportunity ahead is significant,” Bassey said. “Our ambition is to build a world-class investment banking group—originating from Africa and operating seamlessly across global markets. We will scale with discipline, strengthen governance, and deliver exceptional outcomes for clients and partners.”

Etimbuk Bassey is an alumnus of the Oxford Private Equity Programme and the Oxford Algorithmic Trading Programme at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

He has also completed executive education programmes at Harvard Business School and Yale School of Management, holds a Level 6 Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment Banking from the London Institute of Banking and Finance and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (UK).
