Esse Agesse and Kingsley Ogoro’s daughter bags doctorate in Ireland

Mamobo Ogoro, daughter of actress and singer Esse Agesse and filmmaker Kingsley Ogoro, has earned a doctorate in social psychology and applied linguistics from the University of Limerick in Ireland.

Esse Agesse shared the news on Instagram on Monday, expressing her excitement over her daughter’s academic achievement.

“Dr. Mamobo Ogoro. The first of her kind 🥰. Keep soaring higher and higher my darling daughter,” she wrote.

In another post on Tuesday, Agesse reflected on her daughter’s journey and completion of the doctoral programme.

“Allow me celebrate this woman, who has never ceased to amaze me from when I gave birth to her. Thank you Lord for giving her the grace to complete her Doctoral (PhD) journey. She is just a phenomenal human being, one who just keeps going at a pace that I know has been set by Almighty Jehovah and this can never be reversed. Dr. Mamobo Ogoro thank you for not giving up. Father Lord thank you for giving her the staying power. I am indeed grateful to add Mama Dr to my many names.”

Ogoro also marked the milestone in a detailed post, describing the end of her academic journey after more than a decade in university.

“After 11 years in university, it’s officially over.

“I’ve graduated with a doctorate in Social Psychology and Applied Linguistics.

“I arrived at 17 with curiosity and more questions than certainty. I didn’t yet have the language for intergroup relations or belonging, but I was quietly obsessed with one question: why does hate exist, and what can we do about it?

“What I didn’t expect was that Limerick would become a second home.

“Not just a campus, but a community.

“Not just lecturers, but people who stretched me.

“Not just a degree, but a life.”

She said her research later became the foundation for GORM, a social enterprise she co-founded with a close friend.

“My PhD research didn’t sit on a shelf. It became the spark for our social enterprise. Theory met practice. Data met lived experience,” she wrote.

Ogoro added that the university experience helped shape her personally and professionally, thanking her family and supporters for their encouragement throughout the process.

“I’m officially the most educated person in my bloodline. 🫠

“So what’s next?

“I’m a scholar turned businesswoman. Someone who took education seriously enough to apply it. Today, GORM works with organisations in Ireland and globally to design for belonging through evidence-based frameworks.”

The University of Limerick also acknowledged Ogoro’s achievement in an Instagram post.

“At UL, we’re a community of curious minds and changemakers who dream of making the world a better place, just like the newly conferred, Dr Mamobo Ogoro 💚

“Driven by her curiosity, her research at UL and her own personal experiences, Mamobo is the founder and CEO of GORM who is on a mission ‘to unify the world across differences’.

“Today, we celebrate not just her PhD graduation from UL but her commitment to curiosity and her dedication to advancing belonging for marginalised communities across Ireland.

“Congratulations Dr Ogoro!”

Ogoro is the second of three children of Esse Agesse and Kingsley Ogoro. She is the chief executive officer of GORM, an Ireland based social enterprise focused on advancing belonging for marginalised communities through intercultural media and education.

Her parents were present at her graduation ceremony.
