A 37-year-old environmental inspector, Tosin Omodayo, on Friday appeared before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State, for allegedly claiming to be a medical doctor.
The defendant, whose address was not given, is facing a one-count charge.
She, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, Mr. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on February 11 at 9.00 a.m. at 19 Battalion, Army Barracks, Okitipupa.
Orogbemi said that the defendant falsely presented herself as a medical doctor at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital, Okitipupa.
He said that the defendant’s claim was false.
He said that the offence was contrary to and punishable under Section 108(2), Criminal Code, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The chief magistrate, Mr. Olanrewaju Adelegan, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.
Adelegun ordered that the surety must be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
He added that the surety must show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the state government.
He adjourned the case until April 30 for a substantive hearing.
