Personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have arrested a wanted native doctor, Obi Levi Obieze, also known as Levi Obu Onyeka, at the Gbaji checkpoint along the Badagry-Seme border in Lagos State.
Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu community, Enugu State, was intercepted while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle.
He was wanted by the Nigeria Police for his alleged role in the abduction of a 13-year-old girl and ritual killings, including the burial of pregnant women in soakaway pits.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued Thursday in Abuja by the service public relations officer, ACI Akinsola Akinlabi.
According to the statement, the comptroller general of immigration, Kemi Nandap, has confirmed the arrest.
Part of the statement reads:
“According to reports, Obi Levi Obieze, a resident of Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, and a known native doctor, is alleged to have been involved in the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl on 27th May, 2025.
“The victim was reportedly abducted by a group of three men while walking with her father to farm. She was subsequently rescued by the police from a shrine purportedly linked to the suspect, according to a news article published on 28th May, 2025, by a national newspaper.”
The suspect was arrested following credible intelligence received by officers of the NIS Lagos State Border Patrol Command.
“Through credible intelligence, Obi Levi Obieze was apprehended by vigilant men of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Lagos State Border Patrol Command, at Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle,” the statement continued.
“He is currently in custody, and his identity has been confirmed through a National Identity Management Commission enrolment slip found in his possession. During initial questioning, he admitted to the alleged crimes.”
Reports indicate that beyond the abduction of the young girl, police investigators also discovered two decomposing bodies of pregnant women in separate soakaway pits within Obieze’s compound.
The gruesome find enraged villagers who later stormed his residence and set it ablaze.
Comptroller general Kemi Nandap commended the swift response of the officers involved and reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to national security and inter-agency collaboration.
Obieze remains in custody and is expected to be handed over to the Nigeria Police for further investigation and prosecution.
