President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Emeka Rollas has hinted at what he described as a conspiracy around the guild’s forthcoming election.
On Wednesday, Rollas shared a photo of himself on Instagram with the caption: “I laugh aloud on the conspiracy surrounding the upcoming AGN National Elections! How a former National President who didn’t leave a pin behind for the Guild is clamouring for the probe of a government that has proved everybody wrong! Things are happening oh @actorsguildofnigeria.”
The actor did not mention who he was referring to, but his statement has stirred conversation within Nollywood circles.
The AGN National Election is scheduled to be held in December. In August, Rollas inaugurated a seven-man electoral committee led by veteran actor Steve Eboh to oversee the process.
Rollas, who became president in 2017 after defeating Emeka Ike, is serving out his final year in office. He has announced plans to hand over to a ninth president after the December poll.
Past leaders of the guild include Zack Orji, Ejike Asiegbu, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Segun Arinze and Ibinabo Fiberesima.
In January, Rollas denied reports that he was arrested in Abia State during a dispute over the local chapter’s leadership. He explained that he was only invited by the police for clarification.
In 2024, actress Halima Abubakar also threatened to sue him and the guild for N3 billion over defamation claims.
Despite the controversies, his administration has unveiled several programmes this year, including the launch of an AGN super app and plans for a national headquarters in Abuja.
