Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefiele has denied an allegation linking him to terrorism financing.
Mr Emefiele responded on Saturday, to media reports naming him among alleged financiers of terrorism in Nigeria.
In a statement, he said the claim was fabricated and aimed at misleading the public.
He said he had never engaged in any activity connected to terrorism or terrorism financing, whether during his service in government or in his private life.
Emefiele also said he had never been invited, questioned, or investigated on any allegation of terrorism financing and had never met the individual who made the claim.
“There is no scintilla of truth in the allegation,” he stated, describing it as an attempt to malign his name.
He urged the public to disregard the report and asked media organisations to verify information before publication.
