Eliminate my son, suspect father urges FG over murder of housewife and six children

Mudered housewife and children

Father of Umar Auwal, the suspect arrested over the murder of a housewife and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano, has called on the federal government to ensure his son is punished without delay.

Speaking during an interview on a radio programme, the suspect’s father, Malam Auwal, distanced himself from Umar and urged authorities not to keep him in custody.

“What he committed against my younger sister and her six children, my wife’s younger sister and her co-wife is condemnable. I distance myself from him,” Mr Auwal said.

“I don’t even want them to waste time on prosecution. Umar and his likes are supposed to be eliminated. They are not supposed to be remanded and fed with taxpayers’ money,” he added.

Fatima Abubakar, 35 and her six children were murdered after assailants reportedly broke into their residence at Dorayi Gidan Kwari.

Umar Auwal, her nephew, who is currently in police custody, is the prime suspect in the case.

The incident triggered reactions within and outside Kano State, with calls for the prosecution of all suspects linked to the killings.

President Bola Tinubu condemned the murder of the woman and her children and directed security agencies to carry out a full investigation.

The Kano State government also said it had taken over the prosecution of suspects arrested in connection with the case.

The victims were identified as Maimuna, Aisha, Bashir, Abubakar, Faruk and Abdussalam.

Police authorities said the suspect confessed to the killings and to involvement in other attacks within Kano.

Commending the police for their handling of the case, Auwal said he had “sacrificed” his son and would not be involved in court proceedings.

“I have nothing to do with him again,” he said.

“Neither I nor his mother will attend any court sitting over this matter.”
