Former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai has been thrown into mourning following the death of his sister-in-law Safiya Rufai.
Her death was announced by Bello El-Rufai, a member of the House of Representatives representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency.
Mr Bello said she died on Friday after an illness.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May Allah bless the soul of our mother, Aunty Safiya Ali Rufai. She passed away today on Sallah day after a brief illness,” he wrote.
Safiya was married to the late Ali Rufai, who was the elder brother of Nasir El-Rufai.
Bello described her as a mother figure to many and said she played a role in the family and community.
“Aunty Safiya was a disciplined and devoted woman. A mother to many,” he said.
He said her death is a reminder about life and urged people to pray for her.
“I implore the public to pray for her soul to be elevated. May Allah bless the souls of our loved ones,” he added.
Bello also mentioned her family, noting that she was the mother of two daughters, Yaya Zainabu and Yaya Farida, who died years ago.
He prayed for them and asked for strength for the family.
Her death comes at a time when Nasir El-Rufai is reported to be in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Bello also used the moment to thank those who have shown support to his family.
He said the family remains focused on its responsibilities and asked for continued prayers.
