Ekiti State has welcomed a report by BudgIT which ranked it among the top performers in fiscal transparency in Nigeria for the fourth quarter of 2025.
The report titled “States Fiscal Transparency League Q4 2025” placed Ekiti among nine states that achieved the highest score of 39 points, the maximum obtainable under the indicators assessed.
According to the report, Ekiti maintained the top position throughout the 2025 fiscal year, a performance linked to the state’s transparency systems and regular disclosure of fiscal information.
Commissioner for information Taiwo Olatunbosun described the ranking as confirmation of the government’s commitment to open governance and accountability in the management of public resources.
He said the recognition reflects reforms introduced by the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji to ensure financial processes and government spending remain transparent and open to public scrutiny.
“The BudgIT report is a strong endorsement of Ekiti State’s consistent commitment to transparency and accountability in public financial management. Our government has deliberately built systems that ensure fiscal information is regularly published and easily accessible to citizens, investors, development partners, and oversight institutions,” the commissioner said.
Mr Olatunbosun added that “Ekiti’s sustained top ranking throughout 2025 demonstrates that the State has moved beyond episodic compliance to institutionalised transparency practices embedded within its governance structure”.
He said the state government has ensured the timely publication of quarterly budget implementation reports, maintained fiscal data repositories and operated procurement platforms in line with international practices in public financial management.
Olatunbosun added that the government would continue to strengthen transparency mechanisms across ministries, departments and agencies to improve accountability and service delivery.
“This achievement will not make us complacent. Rather, it will motivate us to sustain and further strengthen the systems that guarantee prudent management of public funds and transparency in government operations,” he said.
He also commended BudgIT and other civic groups for their work in promoting transparency and citizen participation in governance across Nigeria.
The commissioner said the administration of Governor Oyebanji would continue to maintain high standards of fiscal openness and responsible management of public resources.
