Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba Nigeria has announced the details of its 49th annual national conference and general meeting, scheduled to hold in Osun State.
According to a press statement released on Friday by the chairman and general secretary of the association, Tiamiyu M. Adeoye and Adeyemi Talubi, the event will take place from August 3 to 7, at Anglican Heritage City, Oke-Iyanu, Bishop’s Office, Ilesa, Osun State.
Egbe Akomolede ati Asa Yoruba Naijiria is a national professional body committed to enhancing the teaching and learning of Yoruba language, literature and culture in schools and colleges across Nigeria.
The conference will host active and practicing teachers of Yoruba language in secondary schools, technical colleges, colleges of education, and other tertiary institutions nationwide.
Institutions and organisations involved in educational policy and curriculum development, such as the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Ministry of Education, publishing companies, media houses and cultural centres will also sponsor participants to the event.
The 2025 conference is themed “The Use of Yoruba Language as a Medium of Instruction in the Teaching and Learning of Science and Technology in Primary and Secondary Schools.”
Osun State governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is billed to declare the conference open on August 3.
Dignitaries expected at the event include renowned artist Jimoh Buraimoh as chairman of the day; Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II; National Patron and Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesaland, Clement Adesoji Haastrup, Ajimoko III; other monarchs in Osun State; Ifa priest and cultural icon Ifayemi Elebuibon and Professor George Ajibade of Obafemi Awolowo University, who will deliver the keynote address.
The statement also revealed that awards of excellence and chieftaincy titles will be conferred on notable individuals for their contributions to the promotion of Yoruba language and culture.
Among those to be honoured as patrons of the association are Governor Adeleke; Osun State Commissioner of Education, Diipo Eluwole; Director-General and permanent secretary of the Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Jolaade Igbaroola; Abuja-based lawyer Barrister Teslim Olanrewaju Akinsola; Victoria Faseru; and Elizabeth Ademola from the United States.
The association extended an invitation to individuals and organisations passionate about the development of Yoruba language, literature and culture to attend the event, which will feature lectures on key aspects of Yoruba studies.
