Actress Efe Irele has become emotional with gratitude after her debut cinema film My Mother Is A Witch crossed the N100 million mark at the Nigerian box office.
Efe shared the news in an Instagram post on Monday, celebrating the achievement and thanking fans for their overwhelming support.
“My heart is so full! My first cinema dance as a producer and I join the 100m+ gang?!?! It can only be God and YOU my beautiful people who took out TIME and MONEY to go support me! I’m forever grateful and want to let you know that THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING!” she wrote.
She continued, “My heart is full! I’m so so happy and as tears of joy roll down my eyes as I type this… I say THANK YOU NIGERIA! 🇳🇬 I’m proud of me! I’m proud of my achievements, my strength and determination! I wish my father was here to see this! Papa I hope I’m making you proud! 🤍🥹”
My Mother Is A Witch officially premiered in cinemas on May 23.
It was directed and written by Niyi Akinmolayan and produced by Anthill Studios in collaboration with FrameFlix HQ. The film was distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, with Efe Irele serving as executive producer.
The supernatural drama follows a fashion editor who returns home from London after a long estrangement, only to confront painful childhood memories and rumours that her mother is a witch.
The film stars Efe Irele in the lead role, alongside Mercy Aigbe, who plays her mother. Other cast members include Timini Egbuson, Neo Akpofure, Nike Adams and Osazuwa Christabel. It was shot in Benin and London.
My Mother Is A Witch had a strong start, earning N26 million in its opening weekend and crossing N53.8 million in its first week.
Efe described the film as a deeply personal journey. “My Mother Is A Witch has been a true test of my strength, resilience and emotions as a human being and as a woman! But guess what?! We did that!!!!!!”
She concluded her post with a heartfelt message to her supporters: “To every single human that supported me and my film… Thank you! Your support will not go in vain! The movement is just starting! We go higher!!!!”
