The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Bayelsa State governor and former minister of state for petroleum resources, Timipre Sylva, wanted.
A statement on Monday by the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said Mr Sylva is wanted in connection with an alleged case of conspiracy and dishonest conversion of $14,859,257.
“The public is hereby notified that TIMIPRE SYLVA, a former Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, and former Governor of Bayelsa State, whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in an alleged case of Conspiracy and Dishonest Conversion of $14,859,257 – part of funds injected by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a Refinery,” the EFCC statement reads.
The EFCC said the money was part of funds injected by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) into Atlantic International Refinery and Petrochemical Limited for the construction of a refinery.
According to the commission, the notice follows a warrant issued on November 6, by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos.
“This notice is pursuant to a November 6, 2025 warrant of the Federal High Court, Lagos,” the statement adds.
The agency said Sylva, 61, is from Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
It urged anyone with useful information on his whereabouts to contact any of its offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt or Abuja, or reach the commission through 08093322644, info@efcc.gov.ng, or the nearest police station.
In October, soldiers reportedly raided Timipre Sylva’s residences in Abuja and Bayelsa, arresting his brother over allegations linking the former governor to a failed plot to overthrow the Bola Tinubu administration.
Sylva’s media aide, Julius Bokoru, confirmed the raid but said the claim was politically motivated.
