EFCC arrests Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over alleged naira mutilation

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested Kannywood actress Samha Inuwa over an alleged naira mutilation offence.

The arrest was disclosed by the commission in a post shared on its official Facebook page on Tuesday, alongside a photo of the actress holding a placard detailing the alleged offence.

“The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 arrested a Kannywood Star, Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation,” the post read in part.

According to the commission, Inuwa was arrested after a video went viral on social media showing her “conspicuously cleaning mucus from her nose with naira notes”.

The EFCC said it traced the video, identified the actress and subsequently arrested her for questioning.

She is currently being held at the commission’s detention facility while investigations continue. The agency added that she would be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.

Naira mutilation is an offence under Nigerian law. The Central Bank of Nigeria Act prohibits the defacing, abuse or improper handling of the national currency and provides penalties for offenders.
