Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) has called on the Federal Government and security agencies to bring to justice those responsible for the killing of Arise News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu.
In a statement on Tuesday signed by its president Eze Anaba and general secretary Onuoha Ukeh, the guild described Maduagwu’s death as a reminder of the insecurity faced by Nigerians daily.
The guild said, “We demand action from the government to address the root causes of insecurity and take measures to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. We demand that those responsible for Somtochukwu’s death be fished out by security agencies and made to face the full weight of the law.”
It also expressed solidarity with Arise News and the journalism community, urging government to address armed robbery, kidnapping, banditry, insurgency and other violent crimes.
Maduagwu, 29, was killed during a robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja, in the early hours of Monday.
She was a lawyer and a broadcaster.
The Nigeria Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
