Eben says church cancelled his ministration over shredded jeans

Gospel singer and pastor Eben has revealed that a scheduled church ministration was cancelled because of his outfit in album artwork.

Speaking during a podcast interview, he said a church withdrew its invitation after its committee saw him wearing shredded denim jeans on the cover of his album. He said all arrangements for the programme had been completed before the organisers changed their decision.

“They had already invited me for their convention, and everything was arranged. Then they saw my album artwork where I wore a shredded denim jean,” he said.

According to him, the jeans did not expose his skin or appear inappropriate, but the church committee felt the style was not suitable for a Christian minister.

“The organiser called me, very upset, and mentioned that the committee felt they could not accept me as a minister due to the type of jeans I was wearing. They said it wasn’t suitable for a Christian,” he added.

Eben, whose full name is Emmanuel Benjamin, has been active in gospel music and ministry for over two decades. He rose to prominence after his song ‘Imarama’ gained attention at a youth conference and has since released several albums.

Reflecting on the incident, the singer said some people focus more on outward appearance than the message of faith. He noted that he prefers to live authentically and believes his achievements are a result of God’s grace rather than personal effort.

Despite the experience, Eben said he harbours no resentment and sees it as part of his journey.
