DSVA forwards TikToker Mirabel’s alleged rape case to Ogun authorities

Raped TikToker Mirabel

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has provided an update on the viral video of an alleged sexual assault shared on social media by a young woman identified as Mirabel.

Mirabel had alleged in a video posted on her social media accounts that she was sexually assaulted on Sunday by a man who later sent her a message claiming responsibility.

In the video, she said she heard knocks at her door and thought it was her neighbour.

She said she had just woken up when she went to open the door.

According to her, she was pushed, fell and hit her head on a refrigerator, after which she lost consciousness. She said she later realised she had been raped.

The post circulated online, with the hashtag #StopRapingWomen trending on X.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Wednesday, the agency said it had established communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital.

The agency thanked members of the public who sent information through direct messages and tagged it online.

DSVA said preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred in Ogun State, placing it outside its jurisdiction.

“All relevant information gathered has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun to ensure proper investigation and survivor protection. Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter,” the agency stated.

It said it expected the survivor to cooperate with authorities to enable investigation and due process.

DSVA reiterated that sexual assault is a crime and that survivors are entitled to protection, care and support.

The agency had earlier appealed to the public to help locate the survivor to offer support and ascertain her location.
