Media personality Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi has sparked debate online after questioning why some women choose to undergo multiple pregnancies despite experiencing severe complications in the past.

Gbemi reacted to a viral tweet listing traumatic pregnancy experiences such as hearing loss, psychosis and broken ribs.

The original tweet shared on Monday, expressed disbelief at the physical toll pregnancy takes on some women and questioned why they would willingly go through it again.

Reacting to the post on Tuesday, Gbemi wrote, “The people who do it multiple times with all these issues, are you ok? I understand the ones who have no issues but those of you who almost died the last time, why go again? Do you love yourself at all?”

Her comment has drawn mixed reactions from social media users.

Some agreed with her concern, highlighting the importance of prioritising health and well-being.

Others criticised her tone as lacking empathy for women who may be driven by societal pressures, personal convictions, or cultural expectations around childbirth.

Gbemi, who is known for her candid takes on social and gender issues, has not issued a follow-up statement since the post gained traction.
