Disc Jockey Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has drawn attention online after dedicating her DIAFA Award to Nigeria.
Cuppy shared videos and photos on Instagram on Wednesday showing the moment she received the award in Dubai.
The 33-year-old was honoured at the DIAFA Awards 2025 in recognition of her contributions to the global entertainment industry.
She appeared on stage in a Yoruba traditional outfit and said she had been pursuing her career as a DJ for 17 years. During her acceptance speech, she expressed gratitude for the journey so far and dedicated the award to Nigeria.
DJ Cuppy also spoke briefly in Yoruba, reciting the phrase “Eniyan Laso mi,” to highlight the importance of community, support, and human connection. Her pronunciation, however, sparked mixed reactions from social media users.
One Osas wrote, “You murdered the yoruba tho. Haba na😂”
LFE Baba commented, “God see how cuppy bantered Yoruba language 😂 which one is eyiyan laso mi, my people are my covering 😂
‘It’s Eniyan ni aso mi, Eniyan boni lara ju aso lo… human beings are my clothes, human beings covered me than clothes 😂😂😂’”
Another user, Zen, congratulated her, saying, “Well done sis. You are an amazing woman. Your front cover with us remains one of the most beautiful covers we’ve ever created. God bless you for your kindness, your light, and your sweet nature. Many may not understand you, but those of us who do truly love you ❤️”
DJ Cuppy, the daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has built a career spanning music, DJ performances, philanthropy, and academia.
The DIAFA Awards, held annually in Dubai, celebrate achievements across entertainment, culture, and humanitarian fields, with recipients drawn from different parts of the world.
