Dino Melaye makes first court appearance in lawyer’s robe after call to bar

Former Kogi West senator Dino Melaye has appeared before Justice Emeka Nwite in Court 8 of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, dressed in a lawyer’s robe and wig.

This comes after he was called to the Nigerian Bar last Thursday, marking a new chapter in his career.

He shared photos from the ceremony on social media, including one with lawyer Deji Adeyanju.

He captioned one of the posts, “Done and dusted.”

Back in April, Melaye had announced that he passed the Bar final examinations.

“Law school results are out. I made it to the largest bar in Africa. Who did it? God did it,” he wrote.

Melaye studied law at Baze University, Abuja, after earning a geography degree from Ahmadu Bello University.

In 2021, his team claimed he graduated as the best law student at Baze, but later reports indicated he earned a second-class lower degree.

With this development, Melaye becomes one of the few former lawmakers in Nigeria to qualify as a legal practitioner after leaving public office.
