Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has confirmed that he is safe and in good health following a road accident along the Daura–Katsina highway on Sunday evening.
The incident, described as a minor car accident by his spokesperson, occurred while the governor was returning from an official assignment in Daura.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, the governor’s chief press secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, assured the public that the governor did not sustain any serious injuries and had only undergone a precautionary medical check-up.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Governor is in good health and stable condition,” Mr Mohammed said.
“Governor Radda remains in high spirits and expresses his gratitude to Almighty Allah for His protection, as well as Katsina citizens and well-wishers for their prayers and concern.”
A short live video released later on Sunday from the governor’s residence showed Radda addressing the public in Hausa and English.
“Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim. Dear brothers and sisters of Katsina State and beyond, we are deeply grateful for all your prayers and concern. By the will of Allah, we were tested with a car accident—but Alhamdulillah, we came out safe and unharmed,” he said.
Radda also confirmed that he was placed under brief medical observation but had since resumed normal activities.
The governor expressed appreciation to the people of Katsina State and Nigerians at large for the overwhelming support and prayers received in the aftermath of the incident.
He said, “I’m pleased to confirm that I remain in good health and high spirits. Once again, thank you for your heartfelt prayers. Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullah.”
Although details of the accident remain unclear, including the number of vehicles involved or whether any aides sustained injuries, the government has downplayed its severity.
Governor Radda, a former director-general of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), was elected in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC).
