Veteran TV broadcaster and producer Bimbo Oloyede has marked 50 years in broadcasting.
In a post on Instagram on Monday, the 71-year-old recalled that she began her career on September 1, 1975, when she walked into NBC/TV as a newly employed assistant producer.
“While waiting in the Entertainment Department, destiny intervened and I was redirected to the Drama Department, an unplanned step that changed the course of my life and still keeps me active in the media today,” she wrote.
Mrs Oloyede credited her late parents for supporting her early steps into broadcasting.
She said her father first took her to NTS at age 10 for a children’s quiz show, while her mother later introduced her to the director of television during her job application, which led to her employment.
She also noted that her time at the station shaped her personal life.
“It was also at the station that I met the man who became my husband. We were together for 40 years, till death did us part,” she said.
Reflecting on her family, she mentioned their continued support, “Between us we had four children who, in their own ways and with my grandchildren, are still contributing towards my ongoing involvement with the media.”
She expressed gratitude to God, her family, friends, mentors and colleagues she has worked with over the decades.
Bimbo Oloyede began at NBC/TV in 1975 and became a member of the NTA Network News team.
She made her first network broadcast in April 1976 and was a regular newscaster on NTA Network News from 1976 to 1980.
In 1980 she left NTA and later co-founded a media company with her husband.
After leaving NTA, she worked as an independent producer, presenter and trainer.
