Destiny chose the mic instead, Peter Okoye reflects on football days

Singer Peter Okoye has reflected on his early dream of becoming a professional footballer before music brought him fame.

Peter shared a throwback video on Instagram on Wednesday showing himself with former Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi. The post prompted him to recall a time when he pursued football while also developing his interest in music.

According to the singer, he once had the opportunity to play for Plateau United after training at Pepsi Football Academy in Jos.

He wrote, “NEVER GIVE UP! Yes, I used to play football and chase music at the same time.
I was even offered the chance to play for Plateau United F.C from Pepsi Academy back then in Jos. But my dream was always to play in Europe.
Somehow, destiny chose the mic instead. 🎤 Today, I’m an established and successful artist/musician.
That’s nothing but grace. OGforever”.

Peter grew up in Jos, Plateau State, where he and his twin brother Paul developed interests in music and dance during their school years. The brothers later formed the group P Square, which rose to prominence in the early 2000s with a string of hit songs and performances across Africa.

P-Square became one of Nigeria’s most successful music acts before the group split. Peter now performs as Mr P while his brother Paul performs as Rudeboy.
