Delta State Government has denied claims of a festival that allows sexual assault of women.
A video shared online showed women being attacked by men during an event in Ozoro. Some users described it as a “raping festival.”
Ossai Ovie, senior special assistant on media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, said no such festival exists in the state.
He said those involved in the incident would face the law.
“The individuals involved will face the consequences of their actions, and we’re committed to ensuring justice is served,” he said.
He added that no tradition supports harm against anyone and said the government is working to prevent a repeat.
The Delta State Police Command said it has started an investigation.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe said the Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola ordered a probe into the incident.
He said the command condemned the act and asked witnesses to provide information.
“No custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens,” he said.
The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information Charles Aniagwu also called for those involved to be identified and prosecuted.
He urged organisers of festivals to ensure safety and prevent such incidents.
The government said it remains committed to protecting citizens and warned that those found responsible would face the law.
