Management of The Delborough Lagos has hosted some journalists who protested their treatment at the launch of the Tiwa Savage Music Foundation on Monday.
Also present at the meeting on Tuesday were representatives of the singer’s public relations team.
QEDNG earlier reported that journalists were denied entry to the launch of the foundation at the Victoria Island-based hotel over a requirement to wear branded T-shirts.
According to eyewitnesses, reporters invited to cover the launch were asked to undergo accreditation outside the venue and told they would only be admitted if they wore the hotel’s branded shirts.
While some reporters wore the shirts to gain access, others from mainstream media organisations declined what they described as disrespectful.
Protests by the journalists forced the hotel management to waive the requirement to wear the branded T-shirt. However, tensions continued inside the venue and the situation was further complicated by the presence of video content creators competing to capture moments for their social media platforms.
Concerned about the negative publicity that followed the incident, particularly on social media, the hotel management and Tiwa Savage’s public relations team reached out to some of the affected journalists on Tuesday to apologise.
They also invited the journalists to a meeting later in the day to address the situation.
At the meeting, participants discussed the incident and agreed that better arrangements should be made in future.
The hotel management and Tiwa Savage’s handlers apologised, calling for the journalists to put the humiliation behind them.
The journalists were subsequently treated to dinner and taken on a tour of the hotel.
