Veteran highlife singer Bright Chimezie has paid a visit to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, following the singer’s recent tribute to him.
Davido shared a clip of the meeting on his Facebook page on Monday with the caption, “My daddy @officialbrightchimezie is here in Lagos.”
The visit comes days after Davido credited Chimezie’s classic track ‘Because of English’ as the inspiration behind ‘With You,’ his collaboration with Omah Lay off his fifth studio album 5Five.
In a video call that surfaced online, Davido was seen expressing admiration for the highlife icon.
“The latest hit I just did with Omah Lay, I used inspiration from your song, Because of English,” he told Chimezie.
The music legend, visibly pleased, responded with interest. Davido then added, “I will tell them to play it for you. It’s trending everywhere, the whole world.”
Shortly after, Bright Chimezie shared a video on his Instagram page vibing to ‘With You,’ showing off his signature dance moves and praising the single.
He also expressed appreciation for the homage paid by Davido and Omah Lay, describing the song as a fine piece of art.
While many fans applauded Davido for recognising Chimezie’s legacy, others have raised concerns.
Some critics on social media questioned why Davido didn’t seek permission before sampling ‘Because of English’ in ‘With You.’
