Afrobeats star Davido has joined the Recording Academy as a voting member, giving him the right to nominate and vote in the 2026 Grammy Awards.

The academy announced the singer’s inclusion in a video shared on social media on Tuesday. Davido described the development as a “game changer,” adding that being part of the Grammy committee means his voice will now count in shaping global music recognition.

The 32-year-old has been nominated for the Grammys but is yet to win. At the 2024 edition, his album Timeless was nominated for Best Global Music Album, ‘Feel’ for Best Global Music Performance, and ‘Unavailable’ for Best African Music Performance.

Earlier this year, his collaboration ‘Sensational’ with Chris Brown and Lojay earned another nomination for Best African Music Performance, but Tems won the award with ‘Love Me JeJe’.

Davido’s membership comes as the Recording Academy intensifies efforts to diversify its ranks and spotlight African music. In 2023, the body introduced the Best African Music Performance category, which has since given Afrobeats and other African sounds greater visibility on the global stage.
