Ogun State governor Dapo Abiodun has announced a N50 million cash gift for the Super Falcons ahead of their second-leg 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic in Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun made the announcement in a Facebook post on Tuesday, after receiving the national women’s team at his office in Oke-Mosan on Monday.
“We received the Super Falcons of Nigeria in our office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ahead of their second-leg Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 qualifier against the Amazons of Benin Republic,” he wrote.
He said the cash gift was meant to recognise the team’s performances and to motivate them for the match.
“In recognition of their performances and to further motivate them for the task ahead, we announced a support package of N50 million to the team.”
Abiodun said the Falcons’ return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Abeokuta, showed that the state’s investment in sports was producing results.
“Their return to the MKO Abiola International Stadium is validation that we are doing something right in Ogun State.”
He listed plans to transform the stadium area with a sports hub that will include a hotel, cinema, shopping complex and other facilities.
“Beyond hosting matches, we are transforming the stadium environment with plans for a sports hub with a hotel, cinema, shopping complex and other facilities.”
Abiodun praised the Super Falcons for their tenth WAFCON title in Morocco and said their success offers an example to young people.
“We commended the Falcons for their tenth WAFCON title in Morocco. What they represent goes beyond football; they embody leadership, teamwork and discipline. Through their example, millions of young women are learning that with hard work and unity they can break barriers and achieve success.”
He said the state government would continue to support the team.
“On behalf of the government and the people of Ogun State, we assured the Super Falcons of our support,” he said.
