Social media is buzzing after a kissing scene between Nollywood actor Daniel Etim-Effiong and actress Bolaji Ogunmola from their recently released movie Summer Rain resurfaced online.
The clip was first shared under a tweet praising the duo’s on-screen chemistry, with the poster insisting that “no one in Nollywood kisses better than these two.” But the comments that followed quickly turned the conversation into a full-blown debate about marriage, boundaries and Nollywood romance roles.
Some users accused Etim-Effiong of featuring in “too many” romantic roles despite being married, questioning why he appears in more kissing scenes than even unmarried actors.
One user wrote: “This guy is becoming annoying at this point. Why is a married man always in these romantic movies?”
Another X user went further, claiming Etim’s wife Toyosi has “valid reasons to crash out,” while others insisted that no spouse would be comfortable watching their partner kiss this passionately on camera.
Not everyone agreed, though. A few users defended the actor, reminding critics that it is literally his job. One commenter wrote: “You people know this kiss is strictly between the characters, right? It’s called acting for a reason.”
Still, the dragging continued, with some joking that they could “never marry an actor or actress” because seeing their partner “twist tongue in the name of acting.”
Bolaji also reacted to a fan who asked, “Can you allow your husband kiss another woman like this in the name of acting maaa 😹😹😹😹 let’s be realistic oooo you sef be woman,” and she sarcastically replied: “Me??? Never!!!! Let him stay home and not do his job!!! We can all starve!!! Especially when I know what he does for a living from jump. He’s staying home!!!!”
Etim-Effiong has also previously addressed criticism over romantic roles, saying producers often include kissing scenes because “that’s what sells.” He added that he prays before shooting such scenes and maintains personal boundaries anchored by his faith and family.
His wife, Toyosi Etim-Effiong, has repeatedly stated that her husband’s on-screen intimacy does not bother her.
The couple, who married in 2017, have three children.
Summer Rain premiered in February 2025 and recorded a strong box-office debut.
