President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has been reappointed as chancellor of the Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State, by the university’s governing council.

During the announcement, he pledged N15 billion towards the development of the institution.

Dangote made the announcement on Saturday during the 5th convocation ceremony of the university, pledging his commitment to transforming ADUSTECH into a leading centre of academic excellence and innovation.

“As part of a 5-year development plan, we will commit N15 billion to various strategic projects.

“These include the design and construction of additional student hostels, a world-class engineering laboratory, a multipurpose computer lab with 24-hour internet access, a mini solar plant for reliable electricity, and a befitting Senate building for administration,” Dangote said.

He also announced post-NYSC employment opportunities for top-performing graduates in engineering and other relevant fields at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, Dangote Cement, and other subsidiaries.

Dangote, who also chairs the Aliko Dangote Foundation, has supported the university extensively over the years.

Past contributions include the construction of male and female hostel blocks with a 500-bed capacity each, the donation of a 2.5 MVA transformer and six step-down transformers, and the university’s connection to a 33kVA power line to ensure steady electricity.

He commended the university’s growth since its inception, noting that the student population has risen from 88 to over 21,000, with about 18,000 graduates celebrated at the combined convocation.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf praised Dangote for his unwavering support for the university, describing him as a visionary and patriotic industrialist.

“Your contributions, both financial and moral, are helping to shape the future of education and development in Kano and Nigeria at large,” the governor said.

Vice chancellor Musa Yakasa noted the university’s achievements in programme accreditation and research, highlighting the creation of a digital mathematical model by graduate Mahmoud Mubarak to measure deforestation density.

During the ceremony, honourary doctorate degrees were awarded to dignitaries, including business magnate Arthur Eze, Max Air founder Dahiru Mangal, oil tycoon Al-Mustapha Ado and senior advocate of Nigeria, Ahmad Raji.
