Dangote Group has expressed sadness over the death of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija season seven winner, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the company said its officials and insurance partners had covered all financial and medical costs and provided support to her family since the accident.

“Since the accident, our officials and insurance partners have been by her side, covering all financial and medical costs and supporting her family.”

According to the statement, arrangements had been made for Ruth to be flown to India for advanced treatment pending medical clearance from her doctors.

“Arrangements had been made for her to be flown to India for advanced treatment, pending medical clearance from her doctors. Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today.”

The development comes after Phyna confirmed her sister’s death in a letter shared on Instagram on Sunday from Eko Solicitors & Advocates.

The statement signed by Justice Segun Ojienoh read, “With a heavy heart the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30hrs. The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed.”

The family also said funeral arrangements will be made public later.

Ruth died after battling injuries sustained in a road crash on August 13 involving a Dangote truck.

Before Ruth’s death, Phyna had repeatedly called out Dangote Group and government authorities, demanding accountability and support for her sister.

She accused the company of going back on its promise to fly Ruth abroad for treatment.

Dangote Group had previously responded that it was waiting for medical clearance before such a transfer could be considered.

The reality TV star was also engaged in an online dispute with activist VeryDarkMan, who accused her of focusing on financial compensation rather than the plight of other victims of the crash.

Phyna dismissed the allegations, calling him a manipulator.

Her health also became a subject of concern when a photo of her in a hospital bed surfaced online, leading fans to send prayers and messages of support.
