Singer Crayon has marked what would have been his late mother’s birthday with a traditional act of respect.
On Instagram on Thursday, the Mavin Records artiste shared photos of himself after cutting his hair. He said this was done as the first son, in line with his family’s tradition.
In his message he wrote:
“Happy heavenly birthday mum. Today as your first son and as tradition requires I cut my hair. I hope it shows how much I love, respect and adore you mum. I miss you everyday – my everything. Words can’t explain how hard today is, it hasn’t been easy navigating this world without you. I promise to make you proud mum. Till we meet again. I love you mum, EVELYN CHUKWU.”
Crayon’s mother, Evelyn Chukwu, died suddenly on July 4, 2025, just four days before his own birthday. At the time of her death, he described losing her as “the darkest day of my life.”
After her death, he called her his “soldier, my backbone, my angel and my pillar,” reflecting on her years of sacrifice and support before his rise in the music industry. She was buried in October 2025 and Crayon gave a tearful farewell, promising to care for his siblings and keep her memory alive.
Crayon, born on July 8, 1997, is a singer and songwriter signed to Mavin Records. He is known for hit songs including ‘So Fine’, ‘Ijo (Laba Laba)’ and ‘Tele’.
