Kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike alias Evans

Convicted kidnapper Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, was on Monday re-arraigned before the Lagos High Court in Ikeja over the alleged murder of two police officers.

Mr Evans appeared before Justice A.O. Ogala alongside his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka.

They are facing a five-count charge bordering on murder, attempted murder and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Both pleaded not guilty when the charges were read.

According to the prosecution, the offences were committed during Evans’ kidnapping operations in Lagos before his arrest in 2017.

The victims were said to be police officers killed while on duty tracking the kidnap group.

Evans was arrested on June 10, 2017, in Magodo, Lagos, after a police operation.

He is currently serving multiple prison sentences for kidnapping.

In February 2022, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for the abduction of Donatus Dunu, CEO of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Ltd.

In September 2022, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison for kidnapping businessman Sylvanus Ahamonu and collecting $420,000 as ransom.

Despite these convictions, Evans is still facing trial in two other kidnapping cases.
