Chioma Ifemeludike records 292 votes in Anambra governorship election

Actress Chioma Ifemeludike, popularly known as IfeDike, has secured 292 votes in the Anambra governorship election held on Saturday, a race decisively won by incumbent governor Charles Soludo.

Chioma, who contested under the African Action Congress (AAC), finished far behind her rivals according to results announced by returning officer Edoma Omoregie on Sunday.

Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won with 422,664 votes. Nicholas Ukachukwu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came second with 99,445 votes, while Paul Chukwuma of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) got 37,753. George Moghalu of the Labour Party (LP) polled 10,576 votes and Jude Ezenwafor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured 1,401.

A former AAC chairperson, Chioma had described her nomination as a product of preparation and grassroots connection. Her campaign focused on social welfare, renewable energy, subsidised education, and improved security.

During the election, Chioma raised alarm over alleged vote buying in the state. In an Instagram post, she condemned the act, calling it “criminal” and “totally absurd.”

“Voters selling their votes for as little as N5,000 and accepting money from politicians to carry out a civil responsibility they owe themselves and their future is outrightly evil,” she said.

The actress urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate reports of party agents allegedly distributing money to voters.

Chioma, who described herself as a female unionist and activist, was one of the few women who contested in the November 2 election.
