Actress and politician Chioma Ifemeludike has raised alarm over alleged vote buying during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.

Taking to Instagram, the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate shared a video criticising the act, describing it as “criminal” and “absurd.”

“This is really criminal. This totally absurd and doesn’t make any sense. If APGA claims to have all the popularity, why then are they buying votes?” she wrote.

“Criminalising and polluting the polity, wasting our resources rather than channeling it to environmental and human development. Paying our old men and women to carry out the civil responsibility they owe themselves and their future, taking advantage of their vulnerability and ignorance is outrightly evil. There was a country…”

In an earlier post, the actress said she got reports that vote buying was happening across polling units in the state.

“I call on security agencies and INEC to get these party agents paying voters N5,000 for their conscience. This very act is destroying our society and it is totally unacceptable!” she said.

Chioma captioned the post, “Voters selling their votes for as little as N5,000 and whoever buying should be sentenced to life imprisonment. This act criminalises both the electorate and politicians and obstructs accountability in governance.”

The actress, who is the only female candidate in the 2025 Anambra governorship race, made headlines last month after releasing her campaign photos which stirred mixed reactions online.
