Chidimma Adetshina set to relinquish Miss Universe Nigeria crown

Chidimma Adetshina Miss South Africa finalist

Chidimma Adetshina will soon relinquish her Miss Universe Nigeria title as organisers have unveiled 22 contestants for the 2025 edition.

The 24-year-old law student was crowned on August 31, 2024, at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Lagos, after representing Taraba State.

Her journey to the crown came after she pulled out of Miss South Africa 2024 following alleged xenophobic attacks online over her Nigerian roots. The Silverbird Group later offered her the chance to contest in Nigeria, which she described as a “second chance.”

Chidimma went on to make history at the Miss Universe finale in Mexico City on November 16, 2024, finishing as first runner-up and the highest-ranked Nigerian in the competition’s history. She was also named Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.

The beauty queen, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, later told reporters she would step back from pageantry to focus on her studies while also pursuing opportunities in modelling and acting.

As she bows out, attention now turns to the 22 new contestants who have been unveiled for the 2025 edition. Among them are representatives of states such as Lagos, Imo, Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom and the Federal Capital Territory. The finalists are already in camp where they will undergo grooming, training and advocacy projects before the grand finale.

Organisers say this year’s competition will focus not only on beauty but also on social impact, with the contestants expected to use their platforms to push causes around education, youth empowerment and health.
