Entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as CharlyBoy, has called on Nigerians to support actor Tom Njemanze who is battling prostate cancer.
In a post on Instagram, CharlyBoy urged the public to contribute towards Njemanze’s urgent medical treatment.
“Our Nollywood icon Tom Njemanze, the legendary actor you watched in Issakaba and Osuofia in London, is in a hospital bed fighting for his life. Prostate complications are draining him, and he needs urgent surgery that costs millions,” he said.
He continued, “This isn’t just about Tom, it’s about the value we place on those who gave us joy, laughter, and unforgettable stories. I, Area Fada, and the CharlyBoy Foundation are calling on all well‑meaning Nigerians, fans, colleagues, and those who still believe in compassion, let’s rise for Tom. Let’s not wait for RIP hashtags. Let’s save him while we still can. Donate whatever you can. Nothing is too small.”
Njemanze, who rose to fame in the 1990s and early 2000s, is known for roles in Pounds and Dollars, Issakaba, Magic Cap, Brain Box, Atosa, Osuofia in London, and Twin Brothers.
His condition became public knowledge after filmmaker Stanley Ontop posted a video of the actor on July 1, lying on a hospital bed, looking frail and connected to IV fluids.
“Hello guys, one of our Nollywood legends is sick and needs urgent surgery. Sir Tom Njemanze has been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and he needs your support to undergo surgery. Nothing is too small, fams. Help our legend live again,” Stanley said in the video.
CharlyBoy, who survived prostate cancer himself, also used the opportunity to advocate for regular screening, especially for older men.
The CharlyBoy Foundation recently launched a health campaign focused on prostate awareness, diabetes, and mental health issues affecting men in Nigeria.
Tom Njemanze joins a growing list of Nollywood veterans who have battled life-threatening health conditions without adequate support.
