The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named three Super Eagles players, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey, in its Best XI for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
CAF released the list on Wednesday after the tournament ended on January 18.
Senegal won the competition after defeating host nation Morocco 1-0 in extra time in the final. The match was decided by a goal from Pape Gueye in added time.
Nigeria finished third after defeating Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the third-place playoff in Casablanca.
CAF’s Best XI was published on its official X page and arranged in a 4-3-3 formation. The selection featured players from Senegal, Morocco and Nigeria.
Osimhen featured in six matches for Nigeria and scored four goals during the tournament.
Lookman recorded the highest goal involvement at the competition, scoring three goals and providing four assists. His inclusion marked his second appearance in CAF’s Team of the Tournament, following his selection at AFCON 2023.
Bassey completed Nigeria’s representation in the team. He featured throughout the tournament and missed the third-place match due to suspension. Nigeria recorded three clean sheets during the competition.
AFCON champions Senegal had four players in the Best XI. They included Sadio Mane, who was named Player of the Tournament, Idris Gana Gueye, Pape Gueye and defender Moussa Niakhaté.
Other players named in the Best XI were Morocco goalkeeper Yassine Bono, Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui and Brahim Diaz.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was held in Morocco.
