Burial arrangements announced for actress Nkechi Nweje

The family of actress Nkechi Nweje has announced her funeral arrangements following her death on March 21.

Actress Rita Edochie shared a photo of the funeral poster on Instagram on Friday, confirming the details of the burial.

She captioned the post, “With heavy heart I bring to you my sister-in-law actress Nkechi Nweje’s official burial arrangement.

According to the announcement, the funeral service and interment will take place on Friday, May 23, at 1C Obeleagu Street, off Awka Road, Onitsha, Anambra State.

The service is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at Eze Chima Primary School, also along Awka Road in Onitsha. The arrangements were signed by her husband, Azubuike Nweje.

Nkechi Nweje, born on June 6, 1964, in Onicha Ado, Onitsha, Anambra State, was a devoted Christian, a mother of six and a respected figure in the Nigerian film industry.

She gained prominence for her role in the film Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha and was known for portraying motherly roles in movies such as Royal War, Festival of Sorrow and Coming Back from Congo.

Her death was confirmed by movie producer Stanley Ajemba, also known as Stanley Ontop, who expressed shock and disbelief over the news.

Nweje died at the age of 60 after a brief illness. Family sources revealed that she died from complications arising from a stomach surgery she underwent in November 2024.

She is survived by her husband and six children.
