Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to contest a seat in the House of Representatives in the 2027 general elections.

The development was confirmed by Bashir Ahmad, former special assistant on digital communications to late ex-President Buhari, in a post on X on Monday.

Mr Ahmad said the decision followed consultations with stakeholders.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress,” he wrote.

A letter dated April 3 and signed by Yusuf also showed his interest in the seat representing Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua federal constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress.

In the letter, he said he decided to contest to contribute to leadership and development in the constituency.

“I am extremely delighted to inform you of my intention to contest for this position, as I aim to contribute to good leadership and bring development to our people,” he wrote.

He also asked for the support of stakeholders, noting that their backing would help him achieve his plans for the constituency.

The move comes after discussions among party members in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State, where support was expressed for his possible candidacy.

The meeting involved party members and officials from the constituency, who discussed preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.

Yusuf Buhari, who has largely stayed out of public affairs since his father left office in 2023, is making his first known move into electoral politics with the announcement.
