Buhari’s ex-aide Bashir Ahmad reacts to video of Burna Boy reciting Arabic phrases

Bashir Ahmad, former personal assistant on new media to late former president Muhammadu Buhari, has reacted to a viral video showing music star Burna Boy reciting Arabic phrases.

In the video shared online by Rahman Jago, Burna Boy is prompted to recite Islamic expressions and responds by saying “Alhamdulillah, MaaShaAllah, Allahu Akbar.”

In a post on X on Thursday, Mr. Ahmad wrote, “Masha Allah! Burna Boy is seen so so happy. May Allah (SWT) make it so easy for him.”

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, disclosed in 2025 that he converted to Islam.

He made the disclosure during a live session on Twitch with US streamer PlaqueBoyMax.

The singer said he was raised in a Christian home and initially practised the faith of his parents.

He stated that as he grew older, he began to study religion and later embraced Islam.

“I was born into Christianity because that’s what my parents practised. However, as I grew older, I began to research life and faith more deeply. That was when I found Islam,” he said.

He added, “It was something that came naturally to me. I just felt a connection and peace.”

The Arabic phrases recited in the video are commonly used by Muslims.

“Alhamdulillah” means praise be to God.

“MaaShaAllah” means God has willed it.

“Allahu Akbar” means God is great.
