Buhari to be buried on Tuesday in Daura – Dikko Radda

Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has announced that former President Muhammadu Buhari will be buried on Tuesday, in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.

Speaking to journalists at the Government House in Katsina on Monday, shortly after returning from London, Governor Radda said the burial will take place at 2:00 p.m., following the arrival of the president’s body by noon.

The governor, flanked by members of Buhari’s family including nephews Fatuhu Mohammed and Musa Haro, as well as former aviation minister Hadi Sirika, said the decision was reached after consultations with Buhari’s family members in London.

“We’ve made consultations with the people around him in London, and we concluded that the body will arrive in Katsina tomorrow (Tuesday) at about 12 noon and the burial is going to take place in Daura at about 2 p.m.,” Governor Radda stated.

“We pray to Almighty Allah to grant his soul peace and may Allah grant him Aljannatul Firdaus.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima and chief of staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, are currently in London to accompany the former president’s body back to Nigeria.

Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday at the age of 82, served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023. He had earlier led the country as a military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.

The elder statesman died in a London hospital after a prolonged illness.

His burial will be held in accordance with Islamic rites.
