BUA Group chairman Abdul Samad Rabiu has announced a $1.5 million cash incentive for Nigeria’s Super Eagles if they win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Mr Rabiu disclosed this on Saturday on his verified X account following Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-finals of the competition.
According to him, the players will receive $500,000 if they defeat Morocco in the semi-final to secure a place in the final.
He added that an extra $50,000 would be paid for each goal scored in the semi-final.
Rabiu further stated that the team would earn an additional $1 million if they go on to win the final, with a bonus of $100,000 for every goal scored in the final match.
“To encourage you, I pledge USD $500,000 to the players upon winning the semi-final, with an additional USD $50,000 for every goal scored,” he wrote.
“Should you go on to win the final, I further pledge USD $1,000,000, plus USD $100,000 for each goal scored in the final.”
Nigeria booked a semi-final clash with host nation Morocco after goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams sealed the win over Algeria in Marrakech.
The result extended the Super Eagles’ unbeaten run in the tournament to five matches.
The semi-final is scheduled for Wednesday, with Nigeria seeking a place in the final and a chance to claim a fourth AFCON title.
President Bola Tinubu also congratulated the Super Eagles on their qualification for the semi-finals.
In a post on his official X handle, the president praised the team’s performance and assured them of national support.
“Go, Super Eagles! You have the support of all Nigerians,” President Tinubu wrote.
The victory came amid reports that the team had earlier raised concerns over unpaid bonuses and travel arrangements ahead of the quarter-final fixture.
The issues were resolved following intervention by the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, told the News Agency of Nigeria that Tinubu approved the Super Eagles’ AFCON 2025 budget on November 14, 2025.
He said the approval aligned stakeholders, including the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and the players.
