The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has announced plans to host stakeholder forums in Kano and Lagos to strengthen Nigeria’s public procurement process through the methodology for assessing procurement Systems (MAPS) framework.
In a statement issued on Friday by its head of press and public relations Zira Nagga, the BPP said the meetings are scheduled for February 17 and February 26 in Kano and Lagos respectively.
According to the statement, the forums are aimed at engaging contractors, consultants, service providers and civil society organisations in discussions on the MAPS framework and its relevance to improving procurement practices in Nigeria.
It said the meetings will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to offer feedback and input towards the development of a national procurement strategy.
The bureau noted that the engagement is part of efforts to align Nigeria’s procurement reform agenda with the roles of stakeholders involved in procurement oversight, advocacy and service delivery.
Participants expected at the forums include representatives of government institutions, private sector operators, professional bodies, civil society organisations and development partners.
The Kano meeting will hold at Tahir Guest Palace, while the Lagos forum will take place at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja. Both meetings are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
The BPP, established under the Public Procurement Act 2007, is responsible for ensuring transparency, efficiency and value for money in government procurement of goods, works and services.
Speaking at a recent training programme in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, BPP director-general Dr Adebowale Adedokun commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to procurement reforms.
He said under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the bureau has been given a mandate to enforce standards, promote professionalism and strengthen procurement as a tool for national development.
