Filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters’ Wire Wire has been selected to screen at the 2026 Joburg Film Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The 57-year-old earlier revealed the movie on Instagram.
Sharing a poster of the movie, she wrote, “I TOLD U ALL. 2026 is going to be … INTENSE FILMWISE! You guys will be woke! The cast reveal is going to keep you starryeyed.”
Directed by Bolanle Austen-Peters, the film stars Olarotimi Fakunle, Lasisi Elenu, Toke Makinwa, Lilly Afe, Neo Akpofure, Emeneks, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Abayomi Alvin, Shaffy Bello, Boma Akpore and Bucci Franklin.
The feature is scheduled to screen on March 3 as part of the festival lineup as it builds toward a wider release.
Wire Wire follows Tobi, a brilliant software developer on the verge of a breakthrough with his cybersecurity system, NEXUS. His life takes a drastic turn when he is falsely accused of theft, beaten and arrested.
Austen-Peters is a filmmaker, theatre director and founder of Terra Kulture and BAP Productions. She has directed films such as The Bling Lagosians, Collision Course, Man of God, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti and House of Ga’a. Her work often focuses on social themes and contemporary Nigerian stories, with several of her films screening at international festivals and on streaming platforms.
Before moving fully into film, she built a career in theatre, producing stage works including Saro the Musical and Fela and the Kalakuta Queens.
