Bolanle Austen-Peters brings back Fela and the Kalakuta Queens to Lagos this Christmas

Founder of Terra Kulture and award-winning filmmaker Bolanle Austen-Peters has announced the return of her hit stage play Fela and the Kalakuta Queens.

The 56-year-old shared a clip of a previous performance on Instagram on Thursday.

She wrote, “When I was conceptualising and co-writing Fela and the Kalakuta Queens, even I did not imagine that I would be creating the most watched and highest grossing box office musical from Nigeria.

“With performance in many capitals across the world and Nigeria, it is coming back this Xmas again! Soooo, I didn’t tell you 👀👀👀👀😁😁😁 but…. All the way from LA, our Fela is coming home too.. @laitanadeniji. please please please buy your tickets early I cannot conjur up additional seats once sold out! My diaspora followers are you ready! Lagos is about to get LIT yet again with @bapproductions #felaandthekalakutaqueens.”

First staged in 2017, Fela and the Kalakuta Queens tells the story of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and the 27 women who stood by him as dancers, partners and revolutionaries.

The musical has been performed in several countries including Egypt, South Africa and the UK, with over 120,000 people watching.

Austen-Peters, through her company BAP Productions, is also known for other hit musicals such as Saro the Musical, Wakaa the Musical and Moremi the Musical.
