Biola Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola, others mourn actress Omotola Odunsi

Actors Biola Adebayo, Odunlade Adekola and others have joined in mourning fast-rising actress Omotola Odunsi.

Omotola’s death was announced by her colleague Akinola ‘Segbowe’ Akano in an Instagram post on Thursday.

Akinola shared photos of the actress alongside screenshots of their last conversation, in which he checked up on her and she replied that she had been unwell but was feeling better.

He described her death as “a strange, rude shock” and prayed for her family.

“Motola! Strange but I tried checking on you at the wee hours of that morning. You said you were FINE & BACK!

“This is a rude shock, Omotola! Journey well, sister. God be with your family,” he wrote.

Others in the movie industry have also taken to social media to pay tribute to the deceased.

Biola Adebayo in a Friday post on Instagram wrote, “Sad!!! I just heard about the demise of that beautiful lady. It’s really heartbreaking. May her soul rest in peace. May God console her loved ones.”

She captioned the post, “Rest in peace beautiful.”

Odunlade Adekola who trained Omotola in his acting school expressed shock at the news, writing, “Jesus Christ. RIP Omotola.”

Ashabi Simple, one of singer Portable’s baby mamas, also mourned the late actress. In a tribute shared on Instagram, she recalled meeting Omotola earlier this year on a movie set.

“I’m shocked. You’re one of the best actors I’m rooting for. I saw you earlier this year when I was shooting Deputy and we promised to feature each other in our next project, but now u laboured and didn’t wait to reap what life sef,” she wrote.

“I remember nights you do chat to give me hope and advice, most of your wishes we talked about didn’t even come true. GOD, we can’t question you, death is deep.”

Omotola began her acting journey while in her 200-level at Olabisi Onabanjo University where she studied microbiology. She started with stage plays and later met Odunlade Adekola during an audition and was selected for training.

She graduated from the university in 2023 and went on to star in several movies including Lisabi: The Uprising, Officer Adaeze, Amonata, Ayanmo Ire and Ifedayo.

Details about the cause of her death have not been made public.
