Bimbo Afolayan, Regina Chukwu, others mourn actress Berry White

Actress Berry White

Nollywood stars Bimbo Afolayan, Regina Chukwu, Aisha Mohsimple and others have joined in mourning fast-rising actress Esther Odeniyi, popularly known as Berry White.

Berry White’s death was announced by her colleague Bakare Zainab on Instagram on Friday.

According to Zainab, the actress collapsed in her apartment three days ago and died. She appealed to the public to help contact the deceased’s family, stating that her corpse was still in the house.

She wrote:
“Ahhh Berry. Esther Arike ooooo. Eleyi dun mi o. I am not quick to type RIP. But please anybody that knows Esther’s family should contact them. She slumped 3 days ago and her corpse is still in her house.
Posting this so we can get information on how to get her families.”

Reacting in the comment section, Bimbo Afolayan expressed disbelief over the news, revealing that Berry White had featured in her upcoming film.

“I don’t understand. She is inside the movie I am about to drop, and she said we are doing the PR together. Pls, abeg o babe! I don’t understand, abeg.”

On her Instagram page, Regina Chukwu raised concern over a past incident where Berry White reportedly said she was receiving threats. She claimed the actress once posted a woman’s photo and phone number online, warning that if anything happened to her, the woman should be held responsible.

“I hear she cried out some time ago that some people were threatening her life, that she even went so far as posting a woman’s picture with her phone number, saying if anything bad should happen to her, she should be held responsible (I have asked that the post be forwarded to me).
So Esther is gone! Lifeeeeeeeeee!”

Aisha Mohsimple also mourned Berry White in an emotional post on Instagram, recalling their last moment together.

“So sad about this 💔💔💔💔
Is it true when people are about leaving the world they know and leave different prints of memories? At Zee’s party you walked to me and told me ‘Ashabi je ki Wura fi phone e yami, mio reni yami lati aro’ (let Wura snap me with your phone, I didn’t see anybody to snap me since).

“And after she snapped you, she did video with you again. I wouldn’t have noticed you and saw you for the last time if not for that short period 😫
I don’t know whatever you went through that led to this, but I’m so sorry if I didn’t love you enough when you were alive, going through a lot as well 😫😫😫. Pray God forgive all your sins and make your spirit rest in peace 💔🙏
Good night babe 💔💔💔💔💔”

Bimpe Akintunde also paid tribute, writing:
“Dear @_berrywhiteofficial
Goodnight 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
I was actually waiting to hear that this story isn’t true.
Rest in peace, Angel 🕊
This hits so hard and really hard 😢😢😢😢🙏🏻🙏🏻”

Berry White was gradually gaining attention in Nollywood, especially in the Yoruba-language film space. She featured in movies such as Anikulapo, Omo Blue and Frenemy.

Her sudden death has triggered an outpouring of tributes across social media from fans and colleagues.
