Bimbo Ademoye knocks Ghanaian media personality Miz Debbie for ‘defending copyright theft’

Actress Bimbo Ademoye has slammed Ghanaian plus-size media personality Miz Debbie for allegedly defending copyright theft, following the illegal broadcast of her movies on Ghanaian TV stations.

The 34-year-old recently took to social media to vent her frustration, calling out several Ghanaian stations for airing her films without permission.

In a strongly-worded video, Bimbo condemned the unauthorised use of her intellectual property and urged the Ghanaian authorities to take immediate action.

Her outburst sparked a wave of online reactions, one of which came from Miz Debbie, who argued that the TV stations were, in fact, helping to promote Bimbo’s work and suggested that the actress should be grateful.

This comment drew the ire of the Sugar Rush star, who fired back, accusing Miz Debbie of “defending theft.”

Bimbo reshared Debbie’s video on Instagram on Sunday, with a fiery caption and tagged top Ghanaian officials, including the CEO of the National Film Authority, Kafui Danku and Communications Minister Sam George.

“First I’d like to apologise to my fans and family. Especially my dad. He’d want me to turn the other cheek, but sometimes you gotta drop your crown and get dirty. This is one of those times,” she wrote.

“I complained earlier about my movies being taken without my consent and posted on some Ghanaian TV stations. @kobe_boujee had posted about it to help raise awareness (thank you so much kobe) but some ignorant ones thought it was ok to defend theft! @miz_debbie is one of them! She even had the audacity to say they’re doing us a favor.”

“@kafuidanku ma’am I hear you’re one of the people that can put a stop to this. @samgeorgegh Sir, this is one of your own supporting theft!… Infact all film makers. This woman says they’re doing us a favour by posting our movies without our consent… I’m willing to drag this out. Let’s f#cking go!!”

Responding under Bimbo’s post, Kafui Danku assured the actress that the issue is being addressed.

“Hi maam, my management and I are working on putting a stop to this. You should see definite actions in a couple of weeks,” she said.

Sam George also acknowledged the situation, promising to raise it with his colleague responsible for television content. “@bimboademoye, my attention has been drawn to your post thanks to the tag. I would be raising the issue with my colleague Minister…

“Our government is very respectful of intellectual property rights and would ensure the protection of same,” he wrote. “I believe Ghana and Nigeria have so much we can continue to collaborate on for our mutual benefit.”

Movie stars like Omoni Oboli, Omowumi Dada, Uche Jombo, Tobi Makinde and Toyin Abraham have also reacted to the post.

Bimbo’s fans have since stormed Miz Debbie’s comment section, criticizing her for what many described as a dismissive attitude toward a serious legal and ethical matter.
